This podcast has been a true gift for not only myself as a preaching but the church family the Lord has called me to shepherd. I thank God for our brother Pastor HB Charles Jr. May the Lord continue to richly bless him, his family and ministry.

I have been listening to the On Preaching podcast for a few years now. It has assisted me in keeping my preaching “muscle” strong as I preach the word of God in my current context (U.S. Army Chaplaincy).

This podcast is a treasure for anyone passionate about preaching. Dr. Charles offers profound insights on sermon preparation, delivery, and the spiritual life of a preacher. Each episode is rich with practical wisdom, clarity, and encouragement, rooted in a deep love for Scripture. His humble and thoughtful approach makes it feel like mentorship from a seasoned pastor. This podcast is a must-listen for growing in faithfulness and effectiveness as a preacher.

HB is skilled as both a preacher and as a teacher of homiletics. Our Brother is humble as he explains practical ways all of us can improve. With resources like this, I struggle to see why a preacher can’t be making regular improvements.

The most helpful preaching podcast I’ve found. It’s very technical yet accessible. We can all use exhortation, but when that gets paired with a meaningful how-to, well that’s a tool we can really use. This podcast checks all the boxes.

I’m grateful to have found out about the Cutting it Straight Conference in 2017. At that time I was in place of wanting to give up on the People God had allowed me to Shepherd. After attending the conference it empowered me by letting me know I wasn’t alone that it was ok for me to feel that I was not reaching the the pew from the pulpit with my message. Sound advice and direction came from the conference and it’s participants at each lecture. I recommend that each and every pastor, Minister or Layman attend this conference.

I found this podcast as I was preparing to preach a monumental sermon in my church. As a woman preacher, I feel we often get “left out” in training on how to become a better preacher. Charles Jr. recognizes women preachers, we recognize him.The episode on preaching as narration was tremendous, and the Lord used it to help me to deliver a powerful word on Ruth. I’ve found this Preaching podcast very helpful and practical. I’ve been disappointed by other Preaching podcasts that are just conversations without giving tangible advice. This is NOT that kind of podcast. He gives such helpful and practical advice that has helped my own Preaching.

This podcast is a faithful primer, reminder, and refresher of preaching essentials. Whether you’re new to preaching or have been pastoring for years, we all can use H.B.’s help in preaching faithfully, clearly, and better. I’ve been listening to The On Preaching Podcast for a few years now; it never disappoints. I take that back... it ONLY disappoints when there aren’t new episodes 😁. Bonus: You should get thee to the Cutting It Straight Preaching Conference if at all possible.
