Durham PGAre you kidding me?In the favorites of 2021 episode one of the hosts said that Criterion’s exclusion of films by Black filmmakers (up until this past year) was a reflection of the company’s “color blindness”. Are you kidding me?! Ignoring Black filmmakers is anything but color blindness. It’s actually a reflection of Criterion’s racism. I’m glad Criterion is trying to rectify this. But the hosts of this podcast really need to do better and stop saying stuff that makes them send like racist ghouls

JoeVirginiaFilm?Just when we thought there was something by which to escape the turmoil of political arguments, it is announced as a new effort by Criterion podcast! I doubt anyone has subscribed to this podcast to hear more political gripes. Wish they had stuck to film. Glad there are other options out there.

Jrmac2000Mostly OutstandingThis podcast has been a constant listen for me for years. However, the constant bashing of any ideas center or right of center has become a huge turnoff. We all understand you guys are lefties, and we understand art film is a bit liberal most of the time, but y’all would do well to remember that liberalism is supposed to include inclusion of all people. It’s never a good idea to start turning off half or more of your prospective audience by talking politics on an entertainment podcast. This should be a safe space for all people who enjoy Criterion films. I hope I can come back here and edit this review in the future!

ParsnipBurger2018 PodcastsI have not been able to download any of your podcasts all year. None of them work and none are available. You need to double check this because there is no possible way to download new episodes. I have unsubscribed and resubscribed a dozen times. None of your past videos are available anymore either.

TigerSamuraiGreat Criterion Companion & MoreExcellent podcast filled with news, rumors, and insight into the Criterion Collection, as well as in depth conversation about specific titles, directors, and genres. Really has begun to feel indispensable as a Criterion collector, but also as a general film enthusiast as they often go beyond and talk about tangents off of Criterion including related films, artists, and boutique labels. Great stuff. Highly recommended. Tho if I had one critical comment, there have been some occasions when a guest or the gang tries for humor, generally a cheap laugh, and it falls flat from self congratulation or trying too hard. But frankly it's a minor quibble and a common thing in a lot of podcasts these days.

WldStrwbrrsSuch A BummerI always want the cinema podcasts to be interesting, I just don’t understand how it never seems to pan out. If you’re going to divulge “something you probably don’t already know,” I’d expect to hear something other than a snippet of the Wikipedia article on Wild Strawberries. There’s a lot to that film; you’re telling me you can’t dig deeper than the surface-level internet detritus that anyone can find? While that put me off, I didn’t tune out until the episode’s guest made a big deal over the movie being in black and white. If this is so exotic that it’s hard to adjust, you're not an appropriate reviewer. I just don’t know how ZOMG BLACK AND WHITE adds to a conversation on cinematography or film as an art. I can’t stop thinking about this podcast, why it didn’t take, and (most of all) why I expected it to be any better. Is it that we’ve reached an anti-intellectualism in America so deep that any conversation on foreign cinema makes me want to believe that the discussion could be interesting? Is it the unathoratative-yuppie-dudes-in-a-studio effect? I don’t know. The main question I’m left with: why do you feel you deserve this platform over anyone else? What do you have to offer on cinema over the layperson? It’s a real bummer listening to someone who knows nothing more than myself (a typical, attentive American viewer) but fumbles through a podcast pretending to know all about it.

JJM19DisappointedI'm a huge film buff, and I tried to give this a chance. I've listened to maybe twenty different podcasts by them. I don't want to hurt feelings, but here's my problem: most of the discussion revolves around one person mentioning a film, and four people mentioning they have yet to see that film. They spend too much time talking about their podcast format, explaining themselves, talking about their discounts and deals, as opposed to what I want to hear: a discussion about cinema. I know that it's exciting to get a great deal, but what's the point in telling us about what you received, if you're not going to watch them, and form a discussion? I'm looking for exploration and recommendations. If you tighten these up, let me know and I'll subscribe again.

MikeOwens23Not a fan of this one, could be better. It would be better if they lost the co host Aaron. His voice and points are tough to take. Not a fan of this one

savedbyvivaldi1A podcast that sounds clear, is informative and enlightening.I have become a true film buff and Criterion Collection fanatic in the last five years. Therefore I listen when I can to a number of film and cinema podcasts and I would say 80 to 90% of them are done by people who get together informally and do it on a lark. One has to wade through endless minutes of inside jokes and unfunny banter in so many of them. It makes one never want to listen to a Podcast again. Then you turn to Criterion Cast with Ryan Gallagher and Scott and the rest of the crew and it is bliss. Smart, well meaning, full of love of film and great detail regarding the Collection. The family of podcasts on CC are it for Cinema. Criterion Collected is also good but too rarely done. This is the one!
-
Jonny_NumbSweet Salvation! The Criterion Cast is a joy to listen to, plain and simple. The various offshoots of the main show offer a plethora of diverse listening options ("Off the Shelf," for instance, looks at home video in general), and the variety of opinions expressed rarely veers into self-serving snobbery. Highly recommended!
-
Crabnebula1914Thanks!I love knowing that they're other people out there who love geek out about the same movies I enjoy! Cult, foreign, classic, and anything else the Criterion Collection has to offer these guys cover it, the range of films they discuss, and the unpretentious fun they have doing it make this podcast great!
-
BugromNitpicking nerds!Unlike the other guy, I mean that in a good way. I know I wrote a review a couple years ago, but it seems to have disappeared. Anyways, I believe the current group of hosts and frequent contributors to the show is my favorite since I have been listening over the past few years. All of the hosts are very knowledgable and likable, even if I fear at least one of them is a communist. While real life obligations have slowed down the main review episodes, these fellas still bring it several times a month with the latest Criterion news. The website is also great with daily articles with Criterion news and other film news of interest to any film lover. Give them a shot and I am sure you won't regret it.
-
Edward Fordugh, nitpicking nerdsBarely about Criterion anymore. These dorks would rather talk about the latest movies and TV shows and blu-rays than what the podcast is titled. Have fun listening to hipsters talk about the greatness of Michael Bay and Prometheus!
-
cinemalacrumTurned me on to film podcastsThese guys really know their stuff and are quite fun to listen to, I particularly enjoy the shows they put together at the end of the year.
-
Tanu11One of th bestProbably the best podcast for everything Criterion.
-
IchifoxGreat listen for Criterion fansThis podcast provides great information and insight on the Criterion Collection!
-
Howland ReedA Must For Unabashed Film Geeks! One of my favorite shows. If you're a cinephile and have an unhealthy obsession with the Criterion collection you'll be in heaven. So jump onto a wild cart ride to Switzerland with Sex Harrison and listen to The CriterionCast!
-
EvanMatherInsightful and a delightA delight to listen to three (or so) film geeks rhapsodize wildly and deliver insightful commentary on the titles in the Criterion Collection. You'll laugh, you'll cry, it will become a part of you.
-
thjoacriterion enablers r usThis is one of my top 5 favorite podcasts to listen to. Ryan, James, Travis, David, Robert and Josh all contribute to enlightening and informative movie talk from individual points of view, with a good dose of humor and meekness to boot. Listening to them talk about a movie makes me want to see the movie. What more can you ask of?
-
The HanzoSteelMust listen for Criterion fans, and movie buffs in generalGood discussions on Criterion (and other) films.
-
JustinAnfiExcellent!A great way to stay in step with all things going on Criterion. Very thoughtful insights on some great films. Would be great if they ran reviews on Criterion discs a bit more frequently but it's a minor quibble. Subscribe with confidence, you wont find a better Criterion podcast out there. Be sure to check out their twitter feed and instagram accounts as well.

xegoA barrrel of monkies with an avarege I.Q of 180The Criterion Cast has been on my Ipod since the earliest episodes and it remains one of the very best. One of the nice things about it is it isn't just another review-cast of what is in the theaters, those podcasts have their place, but the ones like the Criterion Cast that actually inform you on a particular and important niche in film study are rare. What makes it a five star podcast is that they discuss The Collection because they love it and its importance in their lives is obvious.

SSEEEAAANNCriterion Nerd ParadiseI am a huge Criterion nerd, and none of my friends are as obsessed as me, so when I want to geek out about a certain special feature, the wonders of watching one of your favorite older films on Blu-ray, or just general Criterion goodness I eagerly listen to this podcast and return to it again and again. The guys on the show are obviously passionate about the subject matter, and now that they've compartmentalized the different aspects of the show each angle is covered in an interesting and unique way. I love this podcast and am pleasantly surprised whenever a new ep pops up for me to listen to!
-
Etrigan321Great fun and informative!Leave it to Ryan and James to somehow make a great show even better. Splitting up the episodes has been very smart. I wish there were more Criterion film centric episodes, but now it's a treat we all are waiting for. Bravo and hope to see more shows with you at the helm.
-
J HurtadoGreat stuff! The Criterion Cast is among my favorite ways to pass the time during my commute every day. They talk, in great depth, about films that I cherish and I love that.
-
JSPecialSauceInsightful, Educational, and Humorous for Film BuffsI have been listening for a few months now and as a person who tries a lot of film podcasts, this is one of the few that I have kept my subscription to. I really enjoy hearing the Criterion information but just as much I enjoy hearing what the guys think about the films as well as what is going on in film right now. Highly recommended for all fans of film.
-
Josh1126hGreat podcastVery insightful, I look forward to all the different episode types every week. Keep it up! Love it.
-
vadermccOne of the best for film nerdsEveryone here knows a ton about film, both classic and in general, and it's great to hear them talk about stuff. (I love the branching out btw: On the Screen, Off the Shelf, The Newstand). Travis has THE BEST voice ever. Totally made for radio. Ryan and James are great as well, and, like I said, they always have informed and involving conversations about film.
-
ThurloeGreat topics, great hostsThe Criterion Cast in its various incarnations is just an all-around great podcasts. The three hosts and their guests are likeable and manage to create a great atmosphere on the show, and the films and topics discussed are cool and interesting. The main focus is of course on the marvelous Criterion Collection, and the show will obviously appeal to anyone with an interest in this set of film titles, but the tangents are many and varied, and there is something to be found in the podcast for anyone with a general interest in quality film and entertainment. The model is the basic "three friends chatting" of many podcasts, but the chemistry between Ryan, James, and Travis makes this work perfectly on the Criterion Cast. If you enjoy this type of podcast and are looking for a weekly fix of film talk, definitely check this one out.
-
joeycasselLove This PodcastGreat discussions for cineastes. Love the Criterion Collection. These guys are great.
-
tom escamillaThe Perfect Podcast for Movie CollectorsThis is a smart and entertaining podcast that has introduced me to some of my favorite films, criterion and non-criterion. I really enjoy how it never gets too pretentious, just really interesting conversations about fantastic films. Also, it's nice to know that there are other folks out there who can be just as obsessive about the great Criterion Collection.
-
CellosiusReally goodMy only beef with The Criterion Cast is that I'm not always a fan of the guests, but on the whole it's a really good show that offers interesting discussion on film. The three hosts are amicable blokes who know what they are talking about and engage in friendly in-depth discussions about all things Criterion and more.
-
Special K1988My weekly Criterion nerdgasm. These guys are the biggest Criterion nerds besides myself. They consistently are thoughtful and enjoyable to listen to. I've been a listener since episode 13 and they have never lacked enthusiasm for all things Criterion. If you are a Criterion fan please check it out. The site and podcast are obviously a labor of love for all involved. Hope to receive many episodes from these guys.
-
CooterTooter3Excellent workOne of the best podcast bar-none on itunes. Knowledgeable and entertaining. A podcast that shares in my love not just for Criterion films but all great films.
-
Sneakysqueaky86One of the best "niche" podcasts out there...A great podcast containing news updates from around the film world, reviews and commentary on new Criterion releases, and great in-depth discussions on a selected film within the Collection. Their supplemental episodes are also worth a listen, as you get to hear about new disc releases as well as whatever the co-hosts and guests have been watching that particular week. Along with great offbeat and witty chatter you get a great look at a wide range of movies in and out of the Collection, from action movies, slasher flicks, and foreign art house, you can hear about it all.
-
JonSchwarzGreat nerdy fun!I recently discovered this podcast on Stitcher and I can't get enough. It's my favorite nerdy guilty pleasure. The guys come across as really nice people and I enjoy listening to their various perspectives even when I've not yet seen the film they are talking about. Before I started listening I thought for sure it was just going to the equivalent to listening to the comic book store owner from The Simpsons go on and on for an hour but it's really quite enjoyable to the point where I look forward to new episodes each week. If you've ever found yourself getting excited about new release day on the Criterion site (or even know what that means) or you're just a fan of classic cinema, then you'll love this podcast!
-
CoolasquentinThe cream of the cropI've been listening to this podcast for years now and have seen the ups and downs and feel the better for sticking it out through it all. With the best and most eclectic group of movie fans around, James, Ryan, Travis and Moises give a well rounded chat about the Criterion Collection and everything else in between. Their Disc 2's are sometimes better, only because they're just freeforming and not sticking to a set conversation. It also doesn't feel scripted, like many other podcasts I've listened to, so I'm greateful for that. Like a group of friends who I await to hang out with every week, I hope for another 100 episodes and beyond.
-
Allyson BetonteThe Best Film Podcast Available!I've been listening to the "Criterion Cast" for over a year now and it's one of the few remaining film podcasts that I still full-heartedly look forward to each and every week. The chemistry between the show's co-hosts and revolving panel of guests always seems to strike a perfect balance. They always manage to engage in insightful discussions about some of the most thought-provoking and brilliant films in cinema history. I cannot recommend this film podcast enough, and I have to be honest; It's much better then my own. Keep up the great work!
-
BekzodLove this podcastI have been waiting for a long time for a podcast to talk about the criterion collection and this is a great podcast. I really like the regulars Ryan, James, Travis and Moises.
-
BisaacsonLove itInteresting & informed discussions on Criterion movies!
-
CorvexA most hear for Criterion fansI'm from Brazil but i love criterion and this podcast. So rich and fun to listen. Thank you!!!
-
canonmythosA favoriteI'll echo the sentiments of some of the other commenters and say that the show has become much more enjoyable recently, and I find myself listening to episodes where I haven't seen the films, where I might have avoided them before. The technical things have improved, as well as the discussions. Highly recommended.
-
shalgivaAmazingI can not do this podcast justice. It is incredible and so smooth. The host's love there work. And truly love the Criterion collections. Huge fan of this podcast!
-
Ryan2608Great podcast!I have been collecting Criterion films for almost a year now and this podcast previews the movies for me and the conversations make it great like you are listening to old friends talk. I listen at work and look forward to every new podcast. No complaints here, I like the setup of the show and like I said before, its one of my favorite podcasts.
-
lomblensGreat guestsThis podcast has a pretty consistent group of core co-hosts, but I absolutely love the guests that they manage to get on the show. I'm a big fan of the films that Criterion puts out and for the most part, these guys do a pretty good job at discussing them. I think it was smart to take out the "Variations on a Theme" segment with the recent changes. The show seems to have found it's footing now that Rudie isn't on the show. There aren't really any awkward pauses, or at least I don't notice them as much. Keep up the great work.
-
ZazieMetroKeeps getting betterThis show continues to improve each week. Over the past few months, the audio quality has improved, and the content has become much more interesting. Always a great day when an episode shows up in my feed.
-
kooolalaOne of the bestOne of the best film podcasts ever. Might be my favorite too.
-
Evan MatherGreat PodcastI have been listening to this podcast for about a year now - it is like a commentary track for the whole Criterion Collection. Each week they focus on one title, but also talk general film news and speculate about upcoming additions to the collection. The three main hosts - Rudie, James, and Ryan - each have very distinctive albeit similar viewpoints. Although they rarely disagree about whether a film is worthy or not, their banter is very engaging. These guys clearly love cinema - isn't that what Criterion is all about?
-
juiceboxjerryGreat show! This show is terrific. The guys are tons of fun to listen to. I really look forward to every new show they put out.. If you're a fan of Criterion, or just a fan of movies in general, you owe it to yourself to listen to this podcast. Guaranteed to teach you a thing or two, and put a smile on your face.
-
Mayfly80My new favorite podcastI listen to several podcasts each week and this is the only one where i wish I could join in on the conversation. I've learned so much from these guys and they've steered me towards several films that I might have not seen right away. As a Criterion fan, I was thrilled to find a podcast devoted to the Collection. I really like the format and the different segments (especially Fess Up Friday and Variations on a Theme) and look forward to each episode.
