Disappearances

In 2020, after years spent searching for answers, Sarah Turney used social media to help bring justice to her sister Alissa’s nearly two decades-long disappearance. Now she’s teaming up with Parcast to explore the many reasons people disappear and the impact their absences can have on those left behind. Disappearances is a Spotify Original. What’s up with her voice
I really want to listen to this podcast. I just can’t get past the robotic no emotion sound of her voice. That can’t be her real voice.

    Eh
Look. I love the stories, I’m a mysterious disappearances junky. But girl fix the voice. It’s bad. Just be normal. PLEASE

    Voice
I haven’t even bothered listening. I just came here because I cannot stand hearing her voice in commercials on my favorite podcasts. Please. Stop. Please. One star because I couldn’t give a fraction.

    The voice
Love the show, but I’m with the other comments about the delivery. The vocal fry doesn’t bother me. But the upward inflection at the end of literally every sentence is maddening and sometimes I don’t even hear the information because I’m just thinking about that annoying inflection. Makes her sounds like she’s faking concern or empathy, often about mundane parts of the story. It’s definitely a deciding factor when I’m picking out what to listen to for the day. Can I handle this voice today? It reminds me of that episode of Loudermilk where he rants about the barista’s fake affectation.

Good but the fake voice ruins it
I love the stories but I just don’t understand why she does that fake voice. It’s horrible. I had to stop listening. Please, if she reads these. Stop doing that, you don’t need the inflection!!

    Vocal fry
I want to listen to this podcast so much but every time I try I remember why I simply cannot. The vocal fry and strange inflection at the end of each sentence it too distracting. Please just talk in your natural voice and it would be great!

    Vocal fry
Great research but the vocal fry in the speaker’s voice is distracting.

    So interesting
I really like this podcast, even though Sarah’s voice to not real… I listened to her podcast about her missing sister and her voice doesn’t sound like this. I also used to listen to Voices For Justice but had to stop because of the voice. If you listen to Voices For Justice, the opening sequence is her real voice then she comes on using the weird fake voice. Sarah, you have a good voice. Stop using this fake voice.

    The host’s voice is unbearable
Why does she talk with so many ups and downs in every sentence? And the forced low voice is so unnatural

    Cannot handle the voice
Really wanted to give this podcast a try but narrators voice is just too much. Like other reviews mention, the narrator speaks with extreme inflection at the end of her sentences, no matter what. It’s extremely distracting and really takes you out of the story - like the opposite of ASMR. I could not stand listening even to her for even 10 minutes. Some people just aren’t meant to make podcasts and that’s ok.

    Unlistenable Snagglepuss voice
Why does she do that absolutely bizarr, unnatural, overly affected pronunciation of the ends of her words? I gave it one show, but can’t take it anymore.

    Amazing
These are the best written stories I have heard in forever…. Seriously amazing! And love Sarah’s take on them! I’ve been listening non stop since I discovered this podcast yesterday!

    Great podcast!
Sarah does a great job on her podcast, research is phenomenal. Sometimes a persons voice is just their voice. If you don’t like the sound of it, maybe you’re too shallow? Get over it.

Love the stories, but can’t take the tone
Love the stories, but the narrator has too heavy of a Californian valley girl accent :/
