Pressure Cooker

John Nuttall and Amanda Korody are scraping by on welfare and methadone in a basement suite with John’s grandma, when they find themselves embroiled in a terrorist plot. A mysterious figure named Abe comes into their lives and introduces the couple to a shadowy world of global extremism. With Abe as their mentor and benefactor, John and Amanda hatch a plan to bomb a national holiday celebration using homemade pressure cooker devices. They have no idea that federal police are tracking their every move. Through nearly a hundred hours of surveillance footage and wiretaps, Pressure Cooker puts you in the middle of a sprawling anti-terror operation at the height of the War on Terror — one the courts will eventually call a “travesty of justice." Nope
I didn’t like how the host wanted audience to empathize with 2 drug addicts that were racist and clearly wanted to commit a terrorist crime. Good for the police for arresting them but this host was a no for me and John and his wife absolutely disgusting. How can you empathize/sympathize with two people who made multiple comments about killing people and wanting to commit terrorist acts against innocent people. Whether they teetered on whether they should do it or not John was absolutely clear since the 1st episode what he wanted to do.

    An Unlikable Subject Matter
5 stars for the production of the podcast. 0 stars for these two wannabe jihadists who belong in prison for the rest of their pathetic lives.

    Mmmm wow
Very well put together podcast. Balanced. John/Omar is still a scary dude. I’m with the guy who said at the end he (John) was okay with blowing people up. It was entrapment. The police were so far over the line that they should be punished. It is the story of WRONG on so many levels. Binged the whole thing.

    Sympathy for the devil
Hard to feel ANY sympathy for these two people. Not really an even hand in this podcast. They are the poster children for “don’t do drugs” wow. Don’t bother

    Great podcast!
Enjoyed this story very much. Lots of research and informative. The host is a great storyteller and keeps you engaged. Only small point I would knock off is when the producer comes on, she sounds so scripted and unnatural. Her information is good but presented awkwardly; however her parts are very small. Would recommend this, I binged it!

All the mystery of true crime with the best of investigative journalism
From the moment this series begins, we are right in the action of a story so fantastic that if it weren’t real, a listener would think it unbelievable. Yet, it is real. Terribly and terrifyingly real with the undercover tapes provided by the RCMP to prove it. Do the ends justify the means? What if the ends involve stopping terror? What if the means include spending nearly $2million dollars and employing 250 officers for years, colluding in acts of terror, and creating terrorists from disenfranchised, but largely harmless, outsiders? I listened to this series, twice, the last one with my class of high school students. They loved it. We met with Dan and Sarah and asked many questions. The students left believing that journalists and documentary film makers are not just important but essential to creating a society we want to live in. You will love this podcast and learn some (scary) truths about the lengths a free society will go to in the name of keeping us safe.

    Low ratings are weird
Does someone have a grudge against this journalist? Doesn’t make sense. This is a really solid investigative podcast about two (and this is the best term I can think of) idiots trying to make meaning out of their lives by becoming terrorists…and the friends they made along the way, aka the undercover cops who pushed them into it! Weird, weird story, well told.

    Great podcast, infuriating characters.
These people got away with attempting to commit murder, plain and simple. It makes my blood boil that the police screwed everything up. The police are responsible for these people getting away with it all. Since when did RCMP not care that they’d hired a bunch of complete power-hungry idiots? I mean, the things they did were pure stupidity. I’m an average citizen and I could see that what they were doing was highly questionable and illegal. On the other hand, Let’s say that “Uncle Abe” was a real man/terrorist, there would have been many people either dead or seriously injured on Canada Day because whether he was involved or not, John and Amanda had every intention of killing. Period. Do I think the judge made a fair ruling? Eh, I’m conflicted. I’m a firm believer in protecting every singe right that people are afforded, and they WERE pushed into acting, however, they were absolutely thrilled to do it and John had planned to act long before police even got involved! The one thing I AM sure of is that the RCMP are solely responsible for these looney toons being free to hurt people now. There will be blood on their hands, I have no doubt.

    Jaw dropping…
Listening to this I was like “how can they do that?” And it turns out they shouldn’t. Just a wild ride. Do I like them? No. Do I think they were entrapped? Absolutely. The absolute waste of money and investigation the RCMP racked up… it’s mind blowing. They were vulnerable people, addicts and prone to conspiracies. I hope they get help, i hope they stay clean and I hope they surround themselves people with good intentions. The reporting for this was careful, and that was appreciated, because there’s a lot to unpack here.

    Listen to this.
Short version: A young Canadian couple converts to Islam. They plot a bomb attack and are prosecuted for terrorism. Are they Guilty? (It’s a crazy story)

    Not buying the naïve act
Sorry, not buying this naive, “I don’t want to kill innocent people, but can’t wait to see what happens when the C4 explodes with a bunch of nails, etc” They are both guilty and wanted to hurt people in the name of Islam.

    John is a coward
This guy John is a pure coward. Does he know how many of his “brothers” ran like cowards? Anyone who can’t face their enemy and uses bombs then runs away is a pure coward. If given the chance he would have killed people. He needs to be in GITMO. PURE COWARD.
