A Great Start to a New Game and Setting
This show is the test bed platform for a unique, brand new setting and a new game adaptation of the Cortex system. If you're interested in seeing details of a world and mechanics being developed on the fly, this is a great way to see it in action. This is adapted from the live Twitch stream, which means the audio may be a bit rough compared to shows that are produced specifically for podcasts and have separate audio tracks for each player that can be edited individually. As a consequence there are some occasional audio snafus and a bit of unedited cross talk which is par for the course for a live streamed game. That said, it's a faithful port from the stream and has the feel of being there watching live, so as long as you know that going in, it isn't terribly distracting. Because the show is in part a test of the system, character creation happens live on stream, along with some discussion of mechanics, and building characters during play. It's a bit of a slow start, but it is a good introduction to the characters' abilities and to how character creation works in the game. The discussions of mechanics, how to build dice pools, etc continue throughout the show, which makes it a good way to learn the basics of the Cortex system. One thing to note about the Cortex system is that building dice pools requires you to select narrative qualities or attributes that you think apply to a given situation, so it is inherently a little slower than other systems that have a predefined bonus or dice pool, but you also get opportunities for interesting narrative justifications for why a given attribute applies. The setting itself is intriguing, an African-inspired sci-fi setting where African explorers disappeared and found themselves on a new planet. Fast forward a bit and they're living in harmony with several other alien species. It's one of the strongest elements of the show, and will eventually be available as part of the new game. The performances from the players are a lot of fun. Again modeling a typical RPG campaign, the characters form a team at the beginning of the game without knowing each other before hand, in the sci-fi equivalent of "you meet in a tavern." The players go through the familiar story beats of an inaugural adventure, trying to measure each other while getting the job done. Between fun character voices and strong character choices early on, the players give themselves a lot of material to work with in the first arc of their story. Overall it's a fun show that's well done for the kind of show it is. It's a great example of a short playtest campaign that's also acting as a tutorial for a system. It really captures the feel of watching a stream where new friends are sitting down and learning/developing a new system, who aren't afraid to do funny voices, make strong character choices, and build cool new setting details.

    Something Amazing This Way Comes
The creative forces behind this show are exceptional. The cast is so talented, and their GM is definitely some kind of wizard (he’d probably say a warlock) The universe is new, the system is new. I’m so happy it had found a podcast form, as it gives me just one more way to keep up. The storytelling is brilliant, and in a world where everyone seems to be doing the same thing, this show is like nothing else. It is rare to find something this unique right when it is starting, so don’t miss your chance to follow their adventures from the very beginning without having anything spoiled.
