    Found my tribe!
I really enjoy how Julie dives deep into the details of nuclear war preparations, civil defense, and portrayals of nuclear war in film and television. More than once, I’ve found myself laughing out loud when she brings up something we all recognize—like Mrs. Dahlberg’s meltdown in The Day After.

    Thoroughly enjoy this podcast
Julie does a great job with this show & keeps it very interesting & informative. It is nice that this podcast covers a lot of things that just aren’t that talked about when it comes to the Cold War & nuclear war in general. The only thing I can somewhat disagree with Julie on is the movies “The Day After” & “Threads” both are amazing films & it’s probably just because I am American but I prefer The Day After, however Threads is more horrifying & also a great piece of art as well as a piece of cinematic history we can’t forget about. I could imagine how fun it would be to actually sit down & discuss those movies with her seeing as how we are both very alike when it comes to the interest in nuclear weapons & their history & purposes. I have been not as much scared but fascinated by them for years after a very vivid & scary dream about nuclear war that made me decide to study the subject and peaked my interest & this podcast helps me get my fix.

    My newest favorite!
I watched Threads again and afterwards my search for more information about it led me to this wonderful podcast. The host is an very charming young lady with a great accent who takes a deep dive into all aspects of nuclear war. Her research is meticulous without ever being boring or preachy. Give it a try - you won’t be sorry!

One of the best podcasts out there!
Riveting! The host makes an extremely difficult topic (difficult bc of complexity and emotional component) accessible and fascinating. Extraordinarily well researched. This is a real gem

    Fascinating
This show has a completely different view nuclear war than I grew up with, probably a far more realistic one. As a teen I was obsessed with various end of the world scenarios, mostly because I was convinced that I would not only survive but thrive in a post apocalyptic environment. This show has a completely different prospective.

    Love this show!
This podcast shines a light on an area of history that doesn’t get talked about that much, and manages to be both entertaining and chill inducing in equal measure!

    Wonderful
Very interesting podcast. Makes me scared but relieved with every podcast. Julie’s soft Scottish voice is a bit contrary to the subject matter. LOVE THIS PODCAST

    Brilliant
Not just for nuke nerds. Simultaneously chilling, charming—and even on occasion humorous. And who could resist Julie’s charm, and her Scottish accent?

    EXCELLENT!!!
Finally a podcaster with the same obsession that I have, nuclear war! Julie presents wonderfully, great personality and just the right amount of humor. No annoying ads! No senseless babbling! Thanks Julie for all the hard work, time and dedication that it takes to make this podcast PARAMOUNT! I look forward to it every week here in America!

    Fascinating show
Fascinating look at how the world planned to deal with nuclear war. Details and stories you will only find on this podcast.

Unique podcast one of the best anywhere in the world
Julie knows probably more about the Cold War in a British context than anyone else. This is brilliantly researched but from a human rather than academic standpoint. Unfortunately it will give you nightmares you have been warned.

    Brilliantly researched & entertaining
I stumbled across this podcast and I’m so glad I did. I didn’t even know there was such a thing as a nuclear geek or nuclear journalist. Julie is extremely well researched, a great storyteller, and even comical at times (appropriately so). I enjoy and appreciate the point of view and think this information about the past can help us understand and plan for our future. As a filmmaker, I find that this podcast is packed with juicy and dramatic material ripe for visual mediums. Check out her instagram for photos that correspond to the topics, too!

    Fascinating, compulsive listening
Great Podcast- well researched and produced

Fascinating podcasts on a heavy subject.
Julie McDowell presents glimpses into Cold War nuclear history that, alas, may be needed these days. Her «Four Minute Warning» was particularly interesting.

    Fascinating and surprisingly fun
Every episode feels like a fascinating dive into specific tangents about nuclear war that no one really talks about. The host, Ms. McDowall is delightful, which helps offset the spectacularly grim topic.

    Great podcast
Knowledgeable host, great podcast overall. Can be slightly morbid, but that’s to be expected given the subject matter.
