Grandma Guignol

33

Welcome to the mysterious English seaside town of Whitby, where all the monsters and demons of old come to retire and live out the remainder of their spooky days and nights. There's a strange new landlady in town, opening a B&B by the harbour: a lady with a tall black beehive, nasty scars about her person and a very chequered past...

    So Strange—so soothing
I don’t know what I just listened to but I loved it. I’m so sad there’s not more of this.

    Grandma Guignol
About ten minutes into the first episode I realized that I KNEW I knew the voice behind Grandma Guignol - and it was the second time she said the name “Brenda” that it hit me: it was Anne Reid from Victoria Wood’s classic British BBC comedy series “Dinnerladies”. (Wood’s character is named Brenda.) Reid has such a lovely and distinctive voice that she made it so easy for me to become completely absorbed in the story, and I have so many happy memories getting TV shows sent from the UK back in the 90’s that I’m filled with pleasant feelings of nostalgia even while hearing THIS story for the first time. I’m so happy I found this program, completely by chance!

    Wonderful!
I love hearing these older women characters having such exciting (and mysterious) adventures! Wonderfully produced and acted too.

    Fun horror stories
The adventures of the Bride of Frankenstein, who has retired to open a Bed & Breakfast in Whitby. Written by Paul Magrs, the creator of Iris Wildthyme. Very enjoyable stories involving demon cats, sinister ventriloquists, mummies, and a modern day elephant man.

    Love this show
It’s like a supernatural Miss Marple. I love Brenda and Effie’s friendship. The writing, acting, and score are wonderful. I hope they make more than one season!

    Good
This podcast is an adapation of the Brenda and Effie Mysteries from Bafflegab Productions. I've listened to the first episode and it's setting up to be a cross between Miss Marple and X Files... not that I've seen either . Very entertianing.

Great fun! If you like a fun story with a bizarre British twist, you’ll like this.
